Teaching practice(week 8):22/09/2025-26/09/2025
The eighth week of my teaching practice was marked by active classroom engagements, meaningful learning experiences, and vibrant co-curricular events. During this week, I handled various topics across different classes, integrating interactive methods and practical activities to enhance student understanding.
On 22nd September, I took a class for 8D on the topic Thermal Conductivity. To begin with, I reviewed the students’ prior knowledge about malleability and ductility. For Activity 1, I provided different types of vessels to help students observe and identify how materials conduct heat, leading them to the concept of thermal conductivity. In Activity 2, the definition of thermal conductivity was discussed and clarified. During the closure activity, students were shown different objects and were asked to classify them as good conductors and poor conductors of heat.
On 23rd September, I handled a session for 9F on Newton’s Second Law of Motion. The class followed the 5E model. I began by checking the students’ previous understanding of inertia and Newton’s First Law of Motion. For the engage and explore stages, I presented a model and encouraged students to interpret and explain it. Then, during the explain phase, I elaborated on the law with suitable examples. The class concluded with evaluation and etiquette-based questions to assess their comprehension and classroom behavior.
On 24th September, I conducted a class on the topic Metallic Cluster at 8:30 a.m. The session started with a riddle to capture the students’ attention. In Activity 1, an experiment was demonstrated, and students were guided to frame the definition based on their observation. For Activity 2, an iron nail polishing activity using sandpaper was carried out to give them a real-hand experience. During the closure activity, different objects were shown, and students were asked to categorize them appropriately, reinforcing their learning.
The week was also filled with co-curricular activities. On 25th September, various on-stage events of the School Kalolsavam were conducted, showcasing students’ artistic talents. However, due to heavy rainfall, the school was closed on 26th September following a holiday announcement by the Government of Kerala. The postponed second-day programs and prize distribution ceremony were held on 29th September, adding a celebratory end to the week’s activities.
Overall, the week was a perfect blend of academic enrichment and cultural celebration. The classes provided students with experiential learning opportunities, while the co-curricular events encouraged their creative expression and teamwork, making it a truly rewarding week of teaching practice.
