Teaching practice (week 3) 28/07/2025 - 02/08/2025
The week was filled with engaging and insightful classroom experiences that helped me refine my teaching strategies and deepen students’ conceptual understanding. On 28th July, I handled a class for 9F during the 5th period on the topic Velocity. The session began with checking students’ prior knowledge of speed. In Activity 1, students were given a problem that led them to discover the concept of velocity themselves. In Activity 2, I guided them to clearly understand the idea of velocity. The class concluded with a short review to ensure comprehension. On 29th July, I continued with 9F during the 1st period, where I revisited the concept of velocity to build continuity. During Activity 1, I showed the motion of a car along different paths to help students differentiate between uniform and non-uniform velocity. The lesson was consolidated effectively. On the same day, I took a class for Grade 8D during the 6th period on the topic classification of elements. Students were provided with color lots, and through this hands-on activity, the classification of elements was introduced. On 30th July, I handled Grade 9F again during the 5th period for the topic Acceleration. The session began with recalling prior knowledge and proceeded with a video presentation showing the motion of a bus to explain the concept. Students then completed a table to reinforce understanding, and the idea of retardation was also discussed. On 31st July, I taught 8D during the 7th period on Earlier Attempts for Classification. The class started by discussing the early arrangement of elements, followed by introducing Dobereiner’s Triads and Newlands’ Octaves through a model-based activity. On 1st August, the topic for 8D was Mendeleev’s Periodic Table. It was taught using the Inquiry Training Model. Students actively participated by asking yes/no questions, making the session highly interactive and successful. Finally, on 2nd August, I conducted two sessions for 9F. The first class focused on the continuation of Acceleration, covering Uniform and Non-Uniform Acceleration. Students’ understanding was checked through discussion and examples. In the second class, I introduced Road Signs and Road Markings, helping students connect concepts of motion with real-life applications.
Third week of our teaching practice was enriched with a variety of co-curricular activities that added vibrancy and meaningful experiences to the school environment. On Monday optional observation was there. Priya teacher assessed our teaching.A special pledge was organized under the initiative of the Disaster Management Center. The pledge emphasized the importance to prevent accidental deaths due to drowning. Following this, the Science Club conducted quiz related with moon day. On Wednesday, the entire school community observed a one-minute silent prayer in memory of the victims of the tragic incident at Mundakai Churalmala. On Thursday, a poster competition was held, where students showcased their creativity and awareness on socially relevant themes. In the afternoon, a PTA meeting took place, which also included the selection of new executive members. This strengthened the collaboration between parents, teachers, and the school management. On Friday, the English assembly was conducted, providing students with opportunities to exhibit their communication skills and talents in the language. Later, the school cricket selection was organized to identify skilled players for the school team, thereby promoting sportsmanship and team spirit among students.Overall, the week was highly engaging and meaningful, as it balanced academics with co-curricular opportunities that nurtured the students’ physical, intellectual, and emotional growth.
