Teaching practice (week 4) 04/08/2025 - 09/08/2025
The fourth week of the internship was marked by active student participation, creative classroom strategies, and an emphasis on conceptual clarity through inquiry and activity-based learning. On 4th August, I conducted a class for 8D on the topic Chemical Formula. The session began with an engaging game using building blocks, where students constructed elements and compounds to visualize the idea of chemical combinations. Three activities were given during the session — the first focused on identifying the chemical formula of molecules, followed by introducing chemical formulas of elements and compounds. The class concluded with a consolidated closure activity that helped students connect all three concepts meaningfully. On 5th August, I handled two sessions for 8D.The first class was on tge topic Chemical Equations, where the concepts of reactants and products were introduced. The burning of a magnesium ribbon was demonstrated to explain the practical aspects of a chemical reaction. Students were then guided to write equations and classify the reactants and products, followed by a closure activity to reinforce learning. The second class focused on Metals. Real-life metallic objects were brought to the classroom to stimulate curiosity and discussion about their properties. During Activity 1, a mystery box was presented, and students answered questions related to metallic characteristics. The session concluded with a classification activity to distinguish between metals and non-metals based on observed properties. On 6th August, an observation class was conducted for Grade 8D during the 1st period on the topic Malleability and Ductility. The introduction began with a mystery box containing different metals, and students were encouraged to identify the metals based on their properties. In Activity 1, students experimented with aluminium foil and other metals to observe impressions, exploring the concept of malleability. In Activity 2, ductility was introduced through demonstrations and guided discussions. A comprehensive closure helped consolidate both concepts effectively. On the same day, I also took a class on Graphical Representation of Motion for 9F. Students were introduced to the axes and structure of a graph using graph paper. They learned to interpret different motion graphs and later drew their own, thereby developing a clear understanding of how motion can be represented graphically. On 7th August, I taught 9F the topic Position-Time and Velocity-Time Graphs. In Activity 1, the Position-Time Graph and its characteristics were discussed, followed by Activity 2, where the Velocity-Time Graph and its key features were explored. Students actively participated and demonstrated a sound understanding of both types of graphs.
The fourth week of our teaching practice was marked with several academic and co-curricular activities that provided us with valuable learning experiences. At the beginning of the week, a practical work was carried out as part of the B.Ed curriculum. This activity was based on a memory test, which helped us to understand students’ memory span and recall abilities through simple and interesting exercises. On Wednesday, a general observation was held, during which ushas teacher visited and assessed the classes taken by us. The feedback given proved helpful in improving our teaching skills. On the same day, an adolescent awareness class was conducted by the staff members of Parassala Hospital. A counselor addressed the students and gave a detailed explanation about the different aspects of adolescence, helping them to understand the physical, emotional, and psychological changes that occur during this stage. On Friday, we conducted a special assembly in remembrance of Hiroshima and Nagasaki. A pledge was taken to spread the message of peace and to avoid the tragedies of war. In the afternoon, various competitions such as slogan writing, poster making, and speech competition were organized. These programs gave students an opportunity to creatively express their thoughts on peace and humanity.Overall, the week was both informative and inspiring.
